This was in a catalog sent by Breck's anyone familiar with this lily? I think it's cool looking, but that is a really dark color.

It's probably a very deep purple red. It seems to be available only from Brecks.

I have heard mixed reviews on Brecks. Heard a lot that people get the wrong bulbs. Actually that seems to be the case with the whole Gardens Alive! Companies. Including Michigan Bulb, and American Meadows. Along with them not honoring their guarantee. I did order a couple bulbs from them early this year before I found a few forums like this one. So i will see how they do. Lol

But if those are the actual colors, that would look amazing against a light colored background. Especially with the orange pollen. But probably too good to be true lol

Agree with you on all those companies. Breck's is also ridiculously expensive too.

This is unfortunately just a renamed Lilium asiatic 'Mapira' : http://www.brecks.com/product/...
It says: "Botanical Name Lilium asiatic 'Mapira'" under product details.

So this is certainly not a new variety and if you want a "black" lily you could just as well look at some of these instead:

I think it's fair to say that temperature and sun exposure will influence the blackness in these lilies as well, as this is usually the case with lilies anyway. The database certainly holds a great variety of colors. I will say that I thought my own 'Landini' had significantly different blackness for the two years it has grown here.

I have had these in my yard for a few years. They are a *very* deep purple or red depending on feeding and can look black in full sun. They get very tall and definitely require some sort of staking. The flowers can get heavy and in heavy wind or rain will topple or break. They do look amazing and everyone comments on how beautiful they are!
