Don't tempt me too much! nodding I already had it on my list this year, but removed it because I wanted more colored cultivars.. Whistling is it worth? On this photo it looks wonderful but I'm in doubt that it looks really so colorful in real life Confused

I also like these two:

I' m also really tempted to add Zlatovlaska

and I'm also tepted by other mustardy/yellow colors:

These yellow ones would all good go with my All Ashore.

But I'm also tempted to add more pinks and reds:
Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Certe Notti') (this one has no picture in database but looks breathtaking when I google it)

Any more suggestions for a hot pink/magenta similar to ravishing ruby?
And also, which idea is the best beige (like enter the dragon, stop flirting), yellow/mustard or purple/magenta/reds?

Omg, I'm already addicted Hilarious!

My favorite of the group above is Ravishing Ruby. When I clicked on the link it said Flower form...Bubble Ruffled. Is this something new or it just never caught my eye before? Maybe I don't own any with the BR. I really like it!

It means it has a rounded form and ruffles.

Tamara - Zlatovlaska is excellent! This was my first year with it and it bloomed a very very long time. The blooms themselves were lovely. Brad's pic above is in full sun. Mine was a bit more brown in the shade. There are more of my pics of it, and many of Enter The Dragon in the Bloom Season 2016 thread. Zlat was one of my favorites of the year.

I finally got Secret Rites to bloom this year and it was definitely at standout in the garden. I am partial to Ozone Alert because it is a Burseen, but it does have very unusual coloring. Goes well with bright colors around it, especially the reds, fuchsias and multicolor patterns. White would look good too next to it.

Hi!

I's me again Big Grin the plants did very well over winter and are growing bigger Thumbs up , but I have now a new problem - my boyfriend is building a "guitar workshop" on our property so I'm moving all my plants on the location where the building is made.

Now I'm not sure where to plant my irises Confused On both sides of the building is a triangle where I can have my plants, but there's also a slope behind that needs some vegetation.
Thumb of 2017-04-02/darksome/b0e41c

In one of the triangles I planted all my roses that I have, but the second on the right is still empty;
Thumb of 2017-04-02/darksome/a2113d

My question now is... where to plant the irises? Both, the triangle and the slope are enough sunny. My first thought was that I would plant them in the triangle, but my boyfriend is not really happy about the idea - he want something seasonally in the triangle, like for example tulips for spring and gladiolus in the summer, especially because he will have visits from customers, so the place needs to be constantly in bloom; pretty and neat.
Thumb of 2017-04-02/darksome/7b00b1

I said to him that when the irises will establish and grow it would be pretty enough and that I bought irises that bloom at different times so it will always be something in bloom in the summer and that I will combine them with gladiolus until they expand enough.

Still, because I'm a beginner I'm not sure if this is the right choice.. I'm also liking the idea to put them in the back - on the upper part on the slope - is that too steep? In this case I would have the triangle for seasonal plants Lovey dubby

Any thoughts? Please, let me know if you can, I appreciate any opinion Smiling Group hug Thank You!

Hello Tamara, welcome back.

My irises look very boring and untidy during winter. To create a garden to attract visitors year round, I would choose a mixture of plants that have flowers or interesting foliage at different times of the year. Irises mix well with other plants because they come in so many patterns and colours.

Is there a path leading to the new building? You could use a path to direct people to the guitar building and pretty it up with a garden each side. This path could be interspersed with a variety of plants too and your beautiful irises would be on display for your visitors to admire.

Your slope at the rear of the building looks very steep and I don't know what impact that would have.

Totally_Amazing - thank you so much for your reply :)

There will maybe be a path but I'm not sure we will plant next to it any plants, because the property is from my boyfriends parents and it's a little tight with the space, or lets say my place for my plants is for now just around the building.

I'm sorry to hear that the slope looks too steep.. is there a chance that I divide the slope in two halfs and plant the upper part with irises and the lower part with something that would fix everything and prevent erosion?

Thank you so much! Smiling

I was wondering if you potted up some annuals if that would satisfy with the need for something in bloom. You could switch them out as needed and place them where ever they look the best. Also can you terrace the slope?

iciris - thank you too! I was also thinking about terracing the slope.. but then I asked my boyfriend again for the opinion (we make always them together) and he said he would plant on the slope some low growing perennials and put the irises in the triangle. In this case I would really combine them with some annuals.

Maybe the first solution really is the best idea.. the thing is also that this second triangle is less visible than the first where the roses are planted. So a little brown foliage in the colder months is not so critical.

Soo.. I know this was not really the right time, but I moved my irises in the triangle and this was the result a few weeks ago:

Thumb of 2017-06-06/darksome/0f3d67
Its a very sunny place where the irises are planted (8h+ of sun) and there are hostas next to to it (but the line where they are is a few hours in the day shaded by the building that is next to us.. if it will be too sunny I will move the hostas.. anyway, I'm really happy to see that few of the irises are already starting to bloom, despite of transplantig them a month ago!

The first one that bloomed was Clash of Titans:

This is magneficent. Long stalks, with big blooms. I must only admit that I imagined that the purple would be a little more deeper/darker. I like it how the beard is more bluish than the petals.

Second one with a really short stalk (this is probably because the plant is not fully established, right?) with two blooms on the same height is All Ashore:

This one was a stunner. I was asking myself if I made a mistake with this one, because some photos present it's yellow part too vibrant and the blue one not enough violet for my taste. But not in real life. The yellow is a light greyish one, and I really like that.. in combination with an adorable cornflower blue with a violet undertone. It's beautiful Drooling

I'm still waiting for one more that will bloom this year - french lavender

Both Magnificent Masterpiece and Clash of Titans are really great irises. They both bloomed the first year and are large and beautiful blooms. You made good choices.
