I just received a very small eucalyptus tree in the mail. Should I plant it now or wait for the fall? Also sun or shade?

I would plant now, and acclimate it slowly to full sun. It will grow fast.

Welcome Debiranieril! I've struggled with eucalyptus. It is marginally hardy in my zone 8 (Pacific NW) and I can't seem to get it past the first winter. This year I plan to bring the potted tree into the basement for the winter, and hope once it gets some bulk to it, it can be direct planted in a sheltered location. Love the smell! Good luck.

It depends upon where you are. Not all zones are created equally. The Zone gives you minimum temps only so your Zone 8 in Washington is not warm enough for eucalyptus. In my Zone 8 in California, eucalyptus grew 6 feet a year.

The variety I have been trying is E. cinerea (silver dollar tree), which is hardy to zone 8a. I am zone 8b. I did note that @catmint20906 (zone 7a) and @poohdaddy (zone 8a) include this in their plant lists. I am hoping they can let us know if they still have their trees and/or if they give it special treatment.

Hi. Here in zone 7a we treat it as a fast-growing annual--enjoy it for the season and then it's gone.

I live in southport, NC. I believe it's zone 8.
