Umm, the short form?

Anything that gets them there is fine.

(Sending seeds in a thin, flat, First-Class Letter envelope only works if it never goes through a big or modern sorting facility. Those have very high-speed rollers that could hardly have been better-designed to crush seeds. You might get lucky if you tape the seeds in the very middle of the envelope, because (usually?) the rollers only grip the top and bottom thirds or quarters of the envelope. Padding inside the FC Letter envelope MIGHT help, because I have gotten some tiny seeds that were crushed enough to embed them in the Zip-Loc plastic, and put permanently-visible dents into the plastic Zip-Locs, but not QUITE crushed.)

Sighing!

I can't keep it simple even when I try!

Honestly, I thought Dnd was going to package everything up in the boxes and send. I guess I thought she did that last year and I've just forgotten. Lesson learned, lol.

I love the reference! And well-timed, too, given that the 50th anniversary just passed.

Karen, your package arrived safe and sound and you don't need to send a box, don't worry. Most of the packages seem to be arriving in envelopes anyway, which is probably good because then they can be stuffed easier in my mailbox, fitting around any boxes; that way the postman doesn't have to leave them on the porch (with potential to get rained on).

Both boxes and envelopes have their strengths, so to speak, I don't think it matters which you use, personally. Whatever fits the seeds the best.

Uh oh! You're in trouble now... Rolling my eyes.

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. Get well soon! Group hug Rest, hot tea, orange juice, and chicken noodle soup... Just not all together at once. And stay away from milk products until you're better. (Do I sound like your mom yet? Hilarious! )

Try crackers before your feet even hit the floor. Alot of times that will help. Dnd, with all these mother hens around here, she'll be sick of us giving her tips about how to get through this, lol.

Lol! Ahh, just friendly advice... Rolling my eyes. Big Grin I don't think most people realize how much milk slows down the process of getting better though. I didn't take it seriously until the last year or two.

Daniel you can swap seeds of any age but if they are really old you should mention that in the comments. For the last swap I had seed from 1997 that was taken (it had 50% germination for me this year). I do try to give extra seed if the germination is low.

DnD -- I just wanted to drop a line to let you know my seeds arrived yesterday. I haven't had a chance to open it yet, as I've been super busy getting ready for an in-laws visit, but I'm sure everything is great. Thanks again for hosting such a fun swap. Looking forward to the next one.

And thanks again to everyone who participated. I was able to pick up so many fantastic seeds. I'm completely overjoyed.

What a gorgeous box of seeds! Hurray! Thumbs up Hurray! nodding Hurray!

I don't know whether they arrived Saturday or Monday because I couldn't get to the mailbox over the weekend. But there they were last night! Thank you, everyone, especially Libby!

Thank You!

@jimard8, did you wrap a dryer anti-static sheet around your bundle for me? Or Libby, was that from you? Whomever, thank you! I was just thinking a few days ago: "Where will I get my hands on a used dryer sheet? Maybe hang out in a laundromat and browse their trash?"

Instead, it looks like I was given a new one!

Fortunately I haven't had to divide or pack dust-like seeds since the last time I traded some Lobelia. I thought the ground cherry seeds might be tiny, but they are big enough and heavy enough not to "float" out of the Ziploc due to static.

I also found how to collect those seeds, for the future:
"squeeze the pulp from the ripe fruit and mix with water. Allow to settle, and the seeds will sink to the bottom."

(Several people have said they have trouble germinating them, so ti seems desirable to have lots of seeds even if you only need a few plants for snacking. Of course, if you want to make jam, lots of seeds and plants might be necessary.

One person said that she cleaned them like tomato seeds (fermented the seeds with the pulp) "to reduce disease". Does anyone think that's necessary or desirable?
