Hi ATP,

This is my first year with broccoli, and I need some help determining if it's time to harvest. Here's a photo of a head which is beginning to swell. Is it time to harvest this head now, or should I wait to see the head swell more throughout the head? There is one head that has already turned yellow, as I missed it until today.

I'm in AZ and we just had two days of fairly high heat (88-92) within a cooling pattern over the next two days.

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Gina

Cut the one with the yellow. I just keep an eye on the broccoli and let them mature as much as possible. When you begin to see specks of yellow they are fixing to flower, cut them, then cut all the rest that are about the same size. Happy eating.

Thank you, Jim! I did cut the yellow one, steamed it briefly and devoured it. Wow! I've never had fresh cut broccoli, and although discolored, it was delicious. I don't think that head actually flowered, just pale yellow... Odd.

I'll keep a close eye on the others. I really appreciate your input.
