Yes, an assumption that it's a volunteer and that Steve probably lives where that plant is extremely invasive. Either or both could be wrong. Purchased hybrids are much less commonly a mystery in someone's garden. I just went with the odds by adding the suggestion, which was not intended to rule out the previous suggestion, just something extremely likely (depending on location) for Steve to investigate.
