Buds have been stuck in suspended animation for literally months like this. Hints, suggestions?

Hm, Cheryl they do that sometimes. I just gently free the petals with my fingernail if they will. Sometimes they pop open nicely.

Phal blooms do last a very long time, so let's hope you get a few more weeks at least out of those poor little stuck babies.

I have no idea why they do it.

What a tease that one is Cheryl! Maybe just a bit more light? I always find my Phals blooms going towards the light.

Looking at the plant and non-opening buds make me suspect that it is overwatered. Is there a clear plastic liner in that pot? Planting directly in glazed pots is always tricky. I suspect if you dump your plant out, you will discover the only roots are the ones on top. Crying

No liner. Its in orchid bark in a super well-draining orchid pot, the kind with slits on the sides. I let water run through it about every 2 weeks. The pot has an attached drainage dish that sits above a shallow bowl of water and rock pebbles, never touching the pot dish. Sunlight is a premium during all this rain. But Ill find some!

Phals don't like direct sunlight, unless it's very weak, early morning light, Cheryl. Be careful also because a sudden change of light conditions can blast the blooms. Move it slowly towards a window, but don't let the direct sun hit it.

Sometimes even good drainage isn't enough - the roots need to actually dry out between watering and big holes rather than slits in the sides of the pot are better for air movement to the roots.

It helps to have sheer white curtain to diffuse strong light, I have that with our windows here, and my windows face west. But I also have tinted windows and shade from city trees. so light gets diffused, still by 4pm to 6pm strong light, so the curtains help.

If it is raining all day long on your side, I think you can safely open your blinds. Just remember to close it a bit again if your weather improves.

I have the shutters open but I will find more light. We are a shady garden all the way around. This time of year the sun does not shine into the house. I might be moving her outside slowly just to get into the spots with more light. Thanks, @Tarev. I was so excited to see this bloom for the second time for me. But now I see how picky it really is.

So is that a rebloom on an old spike? Sometimes the 2nd flush on the old spike is really not that strong at times, so oftentimes, some growers will just cut off the old spike even if it is still green, so the plant can redirect its energies to growing newer roots and leaves.

Ah okay, then maybe just tweak the light aspect a bit, hopefully it will respond. As long as it is not drying up that bud, it is still okay, just making you wait Big Grin

I carrrrrefully peeled back the first two petals and BOINNNNG! They flower popped open about half way! Hoping for a bit of sun light tomorrow to help it fully open.

Then I looked further and there is another leaf forming. Smiling

Cool! I wonder if a little breeze around will help, like a fan, but focus it away let the air bounce around from a wall, just so to simulate being outdoors with some breeze. Smiling I usually do that, run the ceiling fan, since it is not right at the Phals.

UPDATE
Both opened! Not as big as the originals, and I lost some buds, but I'll take these with pride as my first phal to rebloom for me. Hurray! Thanks for all you help and advice. I tip my hat to you.
