Kevin @JungleShadows can you give some ID help with this semp? Should it be like Andre's pics on the Horst site?
http://www.semperhorst.de/Dieh...

The Japanese pics there do not look like the same plant to me and none of the pics are bright red like some of our database pics are.

As I understand it, plants are totally smooth like Fashion Diva, Have tufting and cilia like SF, are velvety like Thunder or hairy like the arachs in summer. Do ones with tufting / cilia ever go into a velvety phase? Or are the Japanese pics incorrect? The pics on Peters site look velvety too. I'm trying to get a method to help with ID (such as it's velvety or not).

Do the ones in our database look correct? Shrug! Thank You!

Patty glad you're pointing this out, because yes the photos on here don't look like the pics on either of the german websites! I tip my hat to you.

Mine are red too but you'd think the German sites would have a pic of them in their prime. Shrug!

Oh my, Horst's site is showing two completely different semps. And sempervivum-liste.de has blooms from different semps, and they are all fuzzy.
Now to wait and see what Kevin says about the ones in our database? Do we have another NOID on our hands Kevin?

Kevin answered in the semp chat forum:

"Strawberry Fields is velvet and no tufts so the Smits plants are wrong. The others look to be correct."

Yes, Kevin did respond:

Kevin

So that means that all of them in our database are incorrect.

@Jungle Shadows Kevin is this one correct that SMG has?
http://www.smgsucculents.com/S...

And are the Japanese photos correct on this page? It looks like two different semps on this page.
http://sempervivum-liste.de/Se...

These are not 'Strawberry Fields':

Kevin, I can post photos of Howard Wills if they are correct?

Lynn,

No those plants are correct. The Smits plants were TUFTED whereas these plants have a velvety leaf that has a few hairs at the tip but nothing resembling a cobweb. The blooms are pale pink as in the photo. It has a number of different "looks" depending upon where it is grown and the light it receives and time of year. It is a seedling of Cleveland Morgan ad resembles it in several aspects.

Hope that helps! I know that is a more subtle difference about the tip hairs.

Now I'm totally confused - mine (pictured in Lynn's post) has never had velvety leaves (like Belladonna). Do the two photos from Japan on Horst's site look correct? Shrug!

Patty, according to Kevin the only ones that are incorrect are the ones from Andre Smits. Which appears to be the one most of us have. Sad

I will say the pictures that Sand and sea posted look different from the others and it does have a shape or something similar to Cleveland Morgan. Just my opinion

If you look at Horst's site you will see the ones Andre Smits posted. They are now gone from sempervivum-liste.de. They have been removed.
http://www.semperhorst.de/Dieh...

Greg, Sandnsea2 photos look like they do because of her unique growing conditions, heat, high humidity and growing them in the shade. She was the source of the one I have that is incorrect. Mine is grown in full sun in the Pacific Northwest.

@JungleShadows Kevin I posted the Fernwood photos into our database. Would you look at them and let us know if they look correct.

ALL of the plants except Smits are correct. Strawberry Fields has that many different looks depending upon time of year and growing conditions, It can go from a fairly open form to a fairly closed if the conditions aren't right. It looks best in a little shade IMHO.
