It is possible that because of the huge leaf canopy, those leaves simply did not get the necessary light to remain healthy. Leaves are there for photosynthesis and transpiration, so adequate light is necessary.
Let's cover what you do need to do to keep this wonderful plant happy and healthy.
1. Plenty of space for roots to grow. To me this pot looks small for the size of your fiddle. Keep in mind that these are trees.
2. Well draining soil that has some moisture-retention properties. Fiddles prosper when their potting soil stays slightly moist. Be sure you empty that cache-saucer after you water. I know that's a chore because of the weight of this pot/plant, so if you are not able to do this, I wouldn't worry about it. You do want to water it enough that water runs out of the drainage holes.
3. Regular low dose fertilizer, spring and summer, with reduced fertilization fall and winter. I like to fertilize my plant with 20-20-20 at least once a month spring/summer but at 1/2 the recommended dilution. I fertilize with 1/4 the dilution rate in the fall and winter.
4. Bright, indirect lighting. Early morning or very late afternoon sun is a plus. I don't know whether that single light bulb I see is adequate.
By the way, how large was the plant when you got it, how long have you had it, and has it been up-potted?
