Natalie - Could you please post the seedling bloom photos here on this thread. I think it might be interesting to see what kind of children Wild Horses creates as a parent. Smiling

These are all siblings, hybridized two years ago, of Mystical Rainbow X Wild Horses. First bloom ever of the second and third, and 2nd bloom on the first. Sorry for the sad looking pictures, as it was pouring down raining. They looked much prettier in person, and I'm hoping that they will be even better next year. I'm really surprised at how different the second one looks! It's also very tall, at almost 3 feet! That one has increased to at least 3 fans, and the scapes on the other two fans of that one are much shorter, but nowhere near blooming. Hopefully they will get tall also! I know that these are nothing special, but they are so much better than some of the seedlings I've created in the past, so I love them!

Natalie - Thank you for sharing your seedling bloom photos! I think they are pretty, too! My guess is that the pink seedling is getting it's petal color from it's pod parent (Mystical Rainbow). Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Mystical Rainbow') Those blooms can also change over the next couple of years, so don't be surprised if they change a little bit next year during bloom season.

Thanks Becky! I agree totally about the second one. It is more coral in color than Mystical Rainbow, but it's obvious where it got that color from. I love seeing sibling photos because they can be so different. It was very exciting for me this morning, having my own siblings to take pictures of! Plus, with these being from Wild Horses pollen, it was even more exciting for me!

I had 3 others bloom for the first time today too, so it was a great morning! I'm very thankful for the rain, but I would have been much happier if it had waited until tomorrow!

How many seedlings total from the Wild Horses parent are you currently growing?

Three that I know of! Rolling on the floor laughing I'll have to check the tags tomorrow. I may have lost one the winter before last, or I just didn't see the tag this morning. I know for sure that I started with four seeds two years ago though.

Pretty good odds, if you ask me! I always lose a few too, but it isn't from cold Winters! Probably from the heat of summer. Our climates are like polar opposites during the Winter months. Sticking tongue out

They sure are! We had that horrible arctic blast two winters ago, and it was terrible. I'm still shocked that I didn't lose all of my seedlings. Last winter was really mild, and a lot more normal, and I actually enjoyed it! The seedlings enjoyed it too, I'm sure!

I have read through this entire thread. I was going to give Wild Horses a poor review, but after reading that other people in my zone grew it successfully, I might give it another year. I love the pictures of this cultivar and was so looking forward to enjoying its blooms.

I bought four fans of Wild Horses last spring (2020), and it has done essentially nothing in my garden. It isn't thriving, hasn't increased, and hasn't come close to sending up a scape. In fact it looks worse today than when I got it.

I assumed that since Wild Horses is a evergreen that it would grow well for me in zone 8b, but no. In fact it died back over the winter, and I thought I had lost it. It did come back, but it's smaller than it was. I thought maybe it wasn't getting enough sun, so I moved it to a sunnier bed earlier this spring, but it still is just sitting there. Now I wonder if what I received is actually Wild Horses. I may give it another year, but if it doesn't do anything, I'm going to get rid of it.

I bought and planted Wild Horses this Spring. I was very gratified that it decided to bloom this year as I love the blooms! It's in a very sunny location, has had a ton of water this summer ( rain!) and was fed well when I planted it. It's bloomed five flowers so far, really good for a first year plant.

2022 update… Wild Horses continues to do well in my yard. It's now up to 5 fans, which contracted a slight case of rust this Fall. It bloomed beautifully from June 29- July 17 with at least 15 blooms. The scape is still rather short, but I'm sure that will improve. I think my zone must be just warm enough for this cv to thrive.

2023…frustratingly, the landscapers broke 4 scapes off this plant, eliminating its entire bloom season. I didn't see one bloom. It remained at five fans.

Zoia,
Keep us informed on this plant next year, it will be so interesting to see if losing those scapes this year greatly improves the scape production and bloom count next year,
