Thread OP

Hi everyone, I'm about to bring this plant home from work and I can't figure out exactly what kind it is. It looks like some type of palm, but in research I haven't been able to find another one like it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Kyle

Hi & welcome! Agree, it's D. marginata: Dragon Tree (Dracaena reflexa var. angustifolia)

Nice plant Marie. And such a different look from the usual 'office palm'.
Don't they sell these as spikes for summer planting?
Plant it and they will come.

Thank you all. After looking it up, I'm sure you are all correct in that the plant is in fact a Dracaena Marginata. I, unfortunately, had to let someone else take it because I have a cat that loves to eat plants and it appears that the Dracaenas are toxic to her. Any suggestions on good indoor plants that won't harm the cat or dog? Thank you all!

oh yeah, my cats LOVED the grass like leaves on these. That's why I don't have any. They never bothered the Schefflera arboricola, or the Crassula (jade plant)- those have thick leaves.
Plant it and they will come.

I think the plant from Marie looks like red edged Dracaena, with green in the leaf center. I think I've seen those as spikes, as well as Cordylines.
Plant it and they will come.

The first part of the list is plants that are toxic to cats. The 2nd half is plants that are safe for cats, according to the ASPCA.
