Not sure whether is an Aconitum or a type of geranium (meadow geranium?). Stem has fine hairs on it. Thank you.

Difficult to tell from such a close shot. How tall is the plant? Do you have any pics of the whole thing?

Can you tell us your location? Show more of the plant? Tell size of the leaves?

Apologies. I updated my location. Plant is currently about 30 cm tall. Each leaf cluster is about 3-4 cm in diameter. Will go snap a picture later on today of entire plant.

I would say this is perhaps ranunculus acris/meadow buttercup if it has tall fairly straight stems. Or it could possibly be a geranium...that would be a shorter plant with a different stem structure. Some geraniums will give a fragrance if leaves are crushed, but not all do. Hard to say without seeing more than just the leaves. Any chance of getting additional pictures?

The leaves, and the way the new growth is bursting out the top is like Delphinium. Similar to Delphinium grandiflorum.

I can see buds in the lower new growth, before long we should know for sure.

There are some Aconitum which look like this too. Did you buy Aconitum mrperrier?

Thanks all for the help. As I am learning there are many plants with similar leaf patterns. This plant was already in the garden when we bought our house, and trying to determine whether we should take it due to toddlers running around. I might wait until it blooms to be sure. Better photos to follow (dark outside).

I'm not sure, because the stems are not quite as dramatically long as the ones in this photo.

Due to the toxic potential of Aconitum, I'm a little hesitant to crush a leaf.

I have contact allergy issues and usually put on gloves to do such things. Just don't put your nose too close

I don't think it quite matches Ranunculus acris?

I was tossing up between Ranunculus acris and Geranium carolinianum. This picture of R. acris shows similar hairs on the leaves to the ID plant. But I thought the emerging flower buds looked more like the geranium (which does seem to have some hairs). Still sitting on the fence though. I assume the ID plant is believed to be a weed?

It doesn't quite match Geranium carolinianum either .. the venation is similar but lacking some near the tips ..

The leaf has several looks on different areas of the plant.
