Over the last several years my double FLP has greatly diminished in size, with this year basically only one stem. I also noted it to be very late to emerge both years. I've had this plant probably 10-15 years. There is some competition from other plants in its vicinity, could this be a cause? Could it be approaching the end of its lifespan? ( I know regular peonies can live many years but not sure about the FLP.) Should I try moving it to a new bed where there is less competition? Any advice, suggestions appreciated. Thank You!

There are 3 things which can spell death to a fern leaf; lack of sunlight, too much watering, and poor draining soil. Dig that puppy and check for rotted roots. Replant it in a full sun location in a raised bed of quick draining soil, if possible.

Jerry also shared directions for dividing/transplanting fernleafs a few years ago. Tracey, is there any way to get that post added to our Peony Info Sticky?
