What are the white balls on the Chamisa plants in my area? They are very hard. They appeared on the plants in the winter time. Now there are black caterpillars. Did they come out of the white balls?? Are they going to eat the plants? Should I get rid of the caterpillars?

"in my area." Maybe a little more info is in order. A pix of your white balls might also help. Gene

I knew nothing about Chamisa, but a google search brought me to an article which will likely answer your questions if you live in that general area.
