Hi friends,

I saw that my new daylily bed has visitors, terrible ones...a.k.a fire ants ( pretty sure it is fire ants) lots of them... What can I do to get them away from the bed without hurting the daylilies. I just planted them less than 1 month ago...
Thank you for your help...

I use pesticide against ants. It doesn't hurt the plants. Or you can use ants baits. The closed ones where only ants can enter. Safer for other animals too.

I know ants babysit aphids. Don't know if fire ants do it too. So the problems may be correlated.

We spend time in New Mexico, and I got bitten by fire ants. The bites were terrible! I don't envy you fire ants in your daylily bed Crying

This is what I use and it works quite well. The problem is that the queen isn't always killed but instead moves the colony, so I have to apply the bait every month or so to wherever the mound/fire ants have moved.
