It is my neighbors plant that she allows me to admire. She believes it to be around 30 years old, but she was unsure of how old it was when she got it--she says it was around 18". As far as the health, we usually have the perfect climate for them here. Long dry summers, mild winters, high humidity, and sandy soil.
I am not an early bird or a night owl--I am some form of permanently exhausted pigeon

Thanks for the info. That is the biggest one I've ever seen! Your climate is perfect for it. Years ago I managed to get one to about 18" as a houseplant.

It is definitely very large. There are some really large ones on the island here as well.
