Happened to cut through Capitol Park today and noticed new signage on a Camellia tree in the corner of a grove of Camellia trees and I thought "oh good" and it said Valencia Orange Tree to the best of my recollection. I can tell you exactly what went through my mind oh good went to "oh god" and I continued on through and had a look around at some of the old familiar specimens growing here. Many of them giants of their kind. Many of them are labeled and that brings me to these two labels. One is new and one has been there as long as I can remember. After seeing the first one for Valencia Orange and now this pair I'm going to go back and check them all! So I think, that in the case of the one in question I'm going to show you, that the Caryotis obtusa is correct (?) but I'm just guessing. Can anyone here help me to confirm this? I'm not sure I have enough detail in the photos for confirmation. Even without a confirmation I'm going to fire off a few emails. Here they are.

The palms are very similar. A quick way to tell the difference is that C. obtuse has leaflets with blunt tips and shallowly toothed. C. urens has leaflets with a sharp tip and irregularly toothed.

The leaflets look to have the shape of C. urens.

Thank you Dave. I didn't know these are monocarpic. This may be a second tree. Food for thought anyway. They should remove one sign or the other but that may require a much red tape. I'll will have a look to see what sign they put on the Valencia Orange tree soon.
