Nope, not a tomato, but it looks a lot like a variety of kale that we grew at our school garden this spring. I think the variety is Red Winter but there are several kinds with those purple stems and veins.

Yes definitely kale. Looks like red winter Russian kale. It grows very large and you can harvest bunches of leaves as you need them.
