I'm having a problem with the Ghost fern....planted 3 about a month ago and they're suffering a lot of what appears to be a burn. Thought maybe it was due to adding too much osmocote fertilizer, but then realized I went far too long without watering. But the area is heavily shaded, and i thought it had plenty of wet soil. Now, all 3 look like they're going to come back with a little bit of healthy growth (maybe one leaf without burn) coming from the middle of the plant. Another concern is that I planted them in a bed of well established ivy ground cover, but that doesn't seem to be interfering at the moment (no new ivy growth choking out the ferns or anything). Just wondered if ivy was a bad companion plant for ferns in general.
Oh by the way, I also have 3 ostrich ferns planted in the same bed, and 2 of them are even worse off than the others. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Ostrish Fern should be good with the ivy. I have a bed that has the Ostrish and Ivy but the Japanese Ferns seem to be prima donnas. It takes them a long time to get established and they come up later than my other ferns. So you may have to keep an eye on them and make sure the Ivy and Ostrish fern do not try to bump it out of your garden.

That said I have a bed that has ostrish fern, and Japanese Fern and a few other ferns with my hostas and I only have to thin out the ostrish ferns once they started to get aggressive.

If these are recent plants they all do not look good the first year just keep them moist and they should lookd good next year.
