Thanks for a great tip, especially for those who may have large properties with gardens scattered about, but even for those like me with a small place ... I can't tell you the number of times I've had to make a trip back to the shed for pruners or a little shovel or such!

I need to start doing this. This yard is so big I can wear myself out just chasing tools.

I recently decided to leave my garden fork out near the compost pile ... that's usuaqlly the 9only place I use it. I thought that was OK for it since it's mostly fiberglass or platic, and the paint still covers most of the tines.

But don't you worry about wood cracking and metal rusting?

If I left my tools in a pot like that they would soon rust from the rain filling it with standing water.

All of my pots have drainage holes in the bottom so every time it rains it drains right out, I have a lot of these old iron pots and I use them as flower pots and they all have drainage holes. I never have a problem with my tools rusting.

I would leave a set of tools on my front porch, back porch, and just by the gate between the front yard and the back yard. The only problem is my mom - who loves to put things away whenever she comes by, and she is also afraid of people taking my tools from my front porch. But so far, that has not been a problem.

Since I garden on a slope and have garden areas on four levels having tools nearby is a must. A friend, who also gardened on a slope, gave me the idea of putting a mail box on each level and keeping extra tools there.

It works for me because the tools are enclosed and I don't have to worry about the weather.

For tools like the shovel mentioned above, I keep a set in the garage at the street level and another set in the garden shed on the house pad level. Otherwise, I'd be going up and down all day to get tools and never get anything done.
