We came from here
The thread "Our Orchid blooms in May 2016" in Orchids forum

It is June 1. and with that we start the new thread for the month. Let me start with some bloomers, which are now all outside for their Summer vacation. The greenhouse is now totally empty and needs to be really scrubbed out.
Vandachostylis Viboon Velvet keeps on opening - nice scent
Thumb of 2016-06-01/Ursula/06f4be Thumb of 2016-06-01/Ursula/38cf51
And the Bulbo echinolabium opened and now we have a scenting competition going on. Oh whiffy!! Sticking tongue out If you look closely, there is one dead fly stuck/shiny spot and one fly is just happy!

This old Hoosier hybrid, Encyclia Hoosier Ruffels blooms on a very long, branched spike. This one is a bit tough to see in this light.
Here are some of the blooms - I will try to get a decent pic of the plant

Catyclia Purple Glory (or a hybrid with that) keeps on opening fragrant blooms

The small Laelia alvaroana blooms too

This Laelia purpurata started to look a bit desiccated inside, so here it is in evening light outside after getting a good soak.

Epi secundum type and Max tenuifolia also continue to bloom in the cage.

Beautiful, Ursula! I really love your V. Viboon Velvet, and the Bulbo is such an interesting flower. Love them all!

My little collection just has the Phals still going on strong. They've all been in bloom now, continuously for a couple of months.

Ursula, I love the soft colors of that vanda! Your happy flies are hilarious...I like that bulbo too! What is the basket made of?? Looks sorta like steel wool!

Nice Phals, Tara...I love the pastel-y ones. I was about ready to dump all of mine into the compost heap but they are all starting to make new normal-looking leaves again, so they've been granted a stay of execution!

Patty, this basket is made out of epiweb, a material closely related to floor scrubbing material!

Btw those flies seemed to have succeeded, the flower drooped this morning!

Can I come live in your cage Ursula? All those colors, shapes, sizes & scents are awesome.

Tara, good growing on the phals and I like your dendrobium also, I looked it up and the flowers are so dainty and pretty.

This is a lakeview Angel epidendrum. I am hoping that one day it will have numerous clusters of blooms. I love that one too. Thank you!

Nice flowers all, Ursula, Tara, and Jen. All I have blooming now are ground orchids and two (old) Vanda.

My "Coconut Orchid" that was in bloom was snatched up yesterday. The lady made a 400 mile roundtrip journey to purchase some plumeria with inflo., and while walking through the solarium to the Plumeria Patch, she spied the tenuifolia. Then she saw some Spath. 'Grape Sorbet' in bloom and snatched those up too, and purchased a couple of Bletilla 'Kate' as well ( she said to keep the Plicata company :whistling:). Finally, after eyeing some of my mounted orchids, she settled on a compact Phalaenopsis on cypress, the Phal. Hitomi Watanabe. I can treat my wife to a night out under the Golden Arches. Hurray!

From the time I sold my very first plant on eBay some five years ago, I have always judged my profit (if any at all) in how many "Happy Meals" it would purchase. Nothing much has changed, Tara. There's not much meat on the bones. Sad

Jen, I'm in love with that epidendrum! It's going on a wish list for sure!

Thanks Alice. Yes that Den. is quite a dainty one. This is a pic. when I first got it.

Ya know Ken, that Happy Meal plan may be a good way to keep track of your profit...but maybe if you wanted to get your wife more on-board with this overgrown hobby/business of yours treating HER to something away from the Golden Arches might put her in a more cooperative frame of mind! After all, you can just keep a ledger of any profit made! Rolling my eyes.
Exactly how many Happy Meals did you 'waste' on that new greenhouse...???!! Rolling on the floor laughing

Hundreds of Happy Meals on each greenhouse. Rolling my eyes.

I really do tell my wife that I made such and such number of Happy Meals. By the way, we haven't been inside a McDonald's in probably 30 years (or takeout for that matter).

My wife loves that I have a hobby that not only gives me something to do but one that allows her to have her own quiet-time in her art studio. Needless to say, though I am often busier than I would like, what I do is a labor of love. Profit has never been an important part of the equation, if you know what I mean. nodding

Kind of like on a boat...everything is referred to in 'Boat Bucks' or 'Boat Dollars'...last time I checked, a Boat Buck was $1,000... so if something cost 3 bucks....then they spent $3,000.
But, hey...it's not always about the money we spend..it's about the fun, or the learning, or the experience...or the really nice people we get to hang out with!

Ursula, great start to the month with your awesome display! I'm not a huge fan of Bulbo's but I do like yours very much with it's Fu Man Chu ( sp?) mustache. . . and your cutie pie L. alvaroana...

Tara, your Phal's must be happy as can be...they look fantastic!

Jen, your Lakeview Angel has spectacular colors and markings...I may have to put that on my list!

I've got a few new things today..

Wow, they're gorgeous Lindsey. Wish some of mine would shift it into high gear and go from sheath to bloom in less than a year . ..

Love that crinoline on the lip of the Lemon Chiffon cross. Looks like a square-dancin dress.

Love'm all, Lindsey.

I have to dig deep to find anything, but all I have are my two (old) Vanda and Spanish moss. Yep, plain-Jane, moss. I told you my pickings were meager. *Blush* Both Vanda bloomed three times last year.

For the life of me, I simply could not get a good close-up of that Spanish moss flower. Sorry dam* camera.
