No fear of Melanie catching us for a little while longer, she's out on her field trip this morning. Love the snake and turtle pics, too. I have Southern Black Racers in my garden, and saw two of them chasing each other right by my window yesterday. Almost no hope of getting a picture, though. They're very shy and as the name implies VERY fast. They also are adept climbers, so the birds have to choose their nesting sites very carefully. My bamboo stand is quite popular both for nesting (snakes have trouble climbing it) and just for good cover near the feeders. When the hawks are around, the little birds are all twittering in the bamboo because the culms are close enough together that the hawks can't get in there.

Melanie is too exhausted to care. Post away! Dad's making spaghetti and the carbs will probably send me into a coma for a while. The good news is, I didn't pass out in front of everyone (or at all), and I got some awesome photos. But you'll have to wait until I recover a bit. Too much fun.

And I have photos of baby birds!!! I bet you can't wait to see what kind!!! So I'm going to tease you all!!!

The recent rains have encouraged the growth of mold (not good) and moss (wonderful). This little Carolina wren doesn't look too happy though.

The black-capped chickadees don't seem to mind the weather.

The little wren was wet and on "puffy mode".
And, yes, I refilled the almost empty feeder for the chickadees. nodding

I imagine with all the rain you've had & how wet the air is that it's awfully hard to keep the feeders flowing & not getting all moldy.

You're absolutely correct, Ann. I had to dump out two feeders full of niger seed. That stuff's expensive so won't refill those until we get a dry spell.

Boy I sure do hope that dry spell comes soon! I know you guys are sick of rain and wet and destruction and having your lives turned upside down and having to check road closures before you go anywhere at all and never knowing if the road you took will still be open on the return trip and about a million other things. You guys sure have one heck of a sense of humor though. Those things on the Texas weather thread have had me laughing till tears ran down my face.
