Thread OP

Does anyone know what this rose might be? It is red with lots of yellow stamens on a white center and white reverse to the petals. The white reverse can be seen in the faded rose on the left of the photo. I think I bought it some years ago from Heirloom Roses in Oregon and it may have been a sale plant with a lost tag. I'd appreciate any help!

I'm looking through all of the red-blend roses in our database and I'm not coming up with any great matches, but here's something. These three have yellow anthers and a white reverse.

Click on the rose names above the photos and you'll see more photos of those roses.

Zuzu ... the only other one I came up besides the two you mentioned was 'My Stars' by Ralph Moore. Everything else had too many petals.

Right, Lyn, or not enough petals. Picasso, the best match, doesn't have enough. Cocktail and Eyepaint also don't have enough petals.

I'd better add My Stars to our database. We don't have it.

Zuzu ... 'My Stars' was one of Ralph's later releases and didn't have wide distribution, but it was a good rose.

I don't think it's a hand-painted rose and it doesn't look like it has a white eye, so that rules out your other suggestions.

I am kind of leaning towards 'Topsy-Turvy' based upon this photo from another database, but I have not grown the rose.

It could be hand-painted, and Linda said it has "yellow stamens on a white center." There are white flecks on two of the petals in Linda's photo, and my hand-painted roses often exhibit relatively solid-colored blooms here and there. Here's one, for instance.

Topsy Turvy was one of my original guesses, but it's so rare for a Topsy Turvy bloom to look as neat as the one in Linda's photo or that HMF photo. They're mostly wild and crazy. That could be why it's one of my favorite roses. I have three of them and they almost make me laugh when I see them. This is what they look like most of the time.

That's why I hesitated, Zuzu. When I haven't grown a rose, I am never certain. I've grown most of the hand-painted roses because I just love all of them ... Smiling , but in my gardens never have seen the solid blooms you have mentioned. Roses are so dang variable. They just love to keep us guessin' Confused just for the fun of it.
