This is our resident skunk, at least I think it's the same one - how would you know? We know one has been here ever since we moved in over 3 years ago. We saw mama leading babies around last year.

She was most of the time laying flat out in the foliage going for bugs. The foliage is fairly thick for about a foot deep then it thins for the next foot of height. It's amazing how she could disappear so well. If I didn't know she was there, she just looked like a innocuous white spot until she lifted up & moved to a new area. My dh with eagle eyes was the one to spot her & alert me otherwise I'm sure I would never have known.

I must admit, I've never seen any skunks but I've smelled them quite a few times.

My dh is has a good eye too. The other day he pointed out a mother raccoon with babies trailing behind crossing our pasture. I would never have seen them.

Growing up, we had a family of skunks very near our front door. We would see them going down the walk from front to back. Almost dropped the dog on the one night while taking her out for a bed time pee. The skunks never bothered us as long as we were careful.

Yes, this - these skunks just do their thing which mostly consists of keeping the nose on the ground or IN it. I have a terrible time trying to get photos b/c they do everything in their power to avoid me getting too close to them. And skunks can be super fast. When they want to book it, they can surely book it fast!

You certainly don't want to aggravate them.
