I think I've figured out most of the plants and trees at the new house we just purchased. The lady that lived there previously is Filipino and most of the plants she has planted there (quite a few since she's lived there since 1996) are Filipino plants. There was a bit of a language barrier when asking her to identify some of them and this one all I can remember was that it was some kind of herb but I may even be remembering that wrong. So, I figured this would be the best place to ask. Anybody know what this is? It is purple as you can see from the photos and also has some kind of seed pod looking things. Hopefully you can see it from the pics. Thanks so much for your time and help!
Looking through other pics on here I may have identified it. Looks very similar to ninebark maybe? Still looking for more experienced opinions though. I'm pretty new to trying to ID plants of any kind.
Yup! That looks like it and it would make sense too since she said it was an herb used in tea if I remember right but all parts of ninebark are apparently poisonous. I never would have thought of hibiscus since I have several of those at both the new house and the one I'm in now and they are green leafed (or green and white) with very different shaped leaves and they don't have seed pods like that, just flowers. Very interesting!
Thank you all for the replies! This one had me puzzled for a bit and I have a need to figure things out. At first I thought it could be some kind of a young red maple (I'm originally from Illinois) but that wouldn't explain the seed pods and I don't see too many maples around here. Then I thought purple basil but the leaves weren't right compared to other pics I've seen. Doing a search for "purple plant that looks like maple" just didn't cut it lol so thank you all
