One morning about 2 weeks ago I was elbow deep in raw turkey breast I was getting ready to roast when dh says the fox is out front. Wash up FAST but well and run for the camera. Out on the front porch quietly. It had just taken a squirrel. We watched it shake it several times.
I apologize for the crappy quality of the photos. Obviously I still haven’t learned to use the ability my new camera has. Fox was only about 100 - 125’ from me but I can’t get good focus. It looks crystal clear when I’m looking at the screen but I have to be doing something wrong. I have to say though that this entire tableau lasted a good 10 or 15 minutes. The longer it lasted, the more adrenaline pumped through me. It got so bad near the end that I could not even hold the camera steady while resting it on the porch rail. I was shaking like a leaf!!!! It was sooooooo exciting!

Here it has just taken the squirrel.
Thumb of 2016-06-05/flaflwrgrl/4323bb

It came toward us & then cut off to the right to eat it in the taller foliage.

See it? It just stood up from eating. It buried part of it for a later snack. It came back sometime before noon the next day & finished it. I had taken photos of where it buried it & compared with the next day.
Thumb of 2016-06-05/flaflwrgrl/ac0849

It obviously knows I’m on the front porch taking photos. Look at how it's cutting it's eyes toward me.

Checking the scene of the crime for anything it left behind? I don’t know but it went right back to where it had gotten the squirrel in the first place. It checked & sniffed all around.

I assure you it has all four legs. One of our hedges was in the way obstructing the full view of the lower half of that front leg.

That is so cool Ann, good effort on the photos. I find I get the best photos for almost everything on auto, then all you have do is zoom in, push the button partially for focus, then press fully.

Thanks Margaret! I am on auto, that's why I can't understand why it's doing this. I should say I"M doing this as it's not the fault of the camera but of the user. I'm thinking maybe I need to adjust the diopter or something. Have to read the book.

Did you touch any of the settings since you got the camera Ann??? I tried a few things but most of the time the auto setting did a better job with light and focus than I did. Hilarious!

I know what you mean, Ann. I'm still struggling with learning my new camera too. I do have it on the auto setting. It does look like your pictures are dusty, or light, although I don't know how that happens. I had that happen the other day but then I discovered that my lens was smudged, from trying to get too close for a "close-up". Don't know if that could have happened to you. Or, when I was trying to take a picture through my dirty window. I'm probably not being any help. Shrug!

Margaret I did mess with some of the settings but I don't think they did anything. In my reading, it seems there are other menus you go into to change the things I was trying to change.
Christine, that's a valid question but I did think of it & cleaned the lens with the cloth. it didn't seem to be smudged or dirty but I cleaned it anyway. I always keep a lens cover on it until I'm ready to shoot.
Maybe I need new glasses. Hilarious!

Thanks Kurt!

Thank you all.

Ibis, we see it often in the daylight hours. We've seen it early morning, mid morning, lunch time, 3 pm, dinner time. We've also seen it 10 or 11 pm and before dawn.

Same goes for coons. Everybody thinks if you see a coon in the daylight it must be rabid. I say bunk! I've seen coons all my life during daylight hours. It's not a once in a blue moon type thing.

I first saw fox when I was looking out the kitchen window. The house sits up so it was much easier to see fox and fox was closer to the house at that point. Of course it took me some time to grab the camera & get out the back door, out the back porch door, aim & shoot. Hence the long distance.
I just got lucky spotting the rabbit.

Ann, wow that is so awesome! I bet that fox resides somewhere on your property. I wonder if you will see it with a mate later in the year and maybe some young ones come spring, that would really be cool! It is sad for the squirrel but I'm glad that bunny wasn't breakfast for the fox! Green Grin!
