It's hard to say if it lives on our property or not. Our neighbors out back are on 16 ac. & another 16 ac. beside them where a neighbor lives, we are on 6 ac. & there are varying acreages in this whole area. We do see it on a regular basis. I say "it" -- for all we know, we're seeing more than one. There's no way to tell unless you see more than 1 at a time. Sort of like trying to figure out how many hummingbirds you have. Hilarious!
We had really hoped this year to see kits but no such luck. We did see fox a LOT & hunting mainly squirrels. We would often see it morning & early evening so feel pretty sure it was hunting for a family. We let the fields grow though & as you can see from the photos, it's getting pretty high & thick there already in early June. By the end of June, you couldn't see anything in there so we could only see when it ventured onto any of the mowed areas like our mowed grass driveway. If there were kits in there we would never be able to see them.
We usually call the bush hog in at the end of August but this year, I guess due to the whacky weather, it was very thick & very high super early so we had the bush hog in 2 weeks ago. All my wildflowers were done & gone to seed early & things were so thick the bush hog had to raise the mower way up to get through it. He mows it down to about 6". Now we're able to see all the wildlife again. The skunks are regulars morning & evening -- they were a total of 5 but I guess the 3 kids graduated & now we only see the 2 adults.
We'll have to have the bush hog in again probably the end of this month -- maybe even again after that before winter.

Ok, so a bush hog is not a wild boar. It must be a machine of some kind. I'm very willing to be enlightened (in simple, small words). I have a very urban garden and its all in containers and somebody else cuts what grass exists out there. No foxes here - just "protected" coyotes eating people's pets.

Carol, yes the Bush Hog is a machine but we do have wild boars here in Florida too. Green Grin!

Hilarious! Lin.

Carol, we have coyotes here too. We've seen one once & hope that's the last one we ever see. I hear them too at night sometimes. Eerie! Thumbs down Thumbs down They aren't protected here. Open season all the time.

Coyotes are now found in every county in Florida. http://myfwc.com/wildlifehabit... We have them here in Sebastian and although I haven't seen one yet, I have heard them at night.

About 12 years ago when visiting my mom before she passed (down in Davie in Broward County), she told me their subdivision had a problem with foxes killing neighborhood cats. One night my sister was leaving to go home and I was standing next to her car in mom's driveway and she said "Ooh, there's a fox!" It was actually a Coyote, walking down the next door neighbors driveway. It stopped and stared at us for a couple of minutes and then trotted across the street and disappeared behind another house. Mom told me about how awful it was late at night when you'd hear a cat screaming (being taken by a coyote) and I thought she was exaggerating... until I heard it a few times myself. Very eerie. Blinking

I think foxes are pretty but the coyotes I've seen, not so much ... they look like scraggly, raggedy long-legged dogs.

Our neighbor in the back with the 16 ac. had 5 Rhode Island Reds they let free range. She came out one morning to find nothing but feathers left. All 5 had been taken at one time. They don't let the chickens free range anymore.

Open season on coyotes sounds like heaven. And I'm really happy not to have to choose between the bush hog and the wild boar - the one looks way too combersome and complicated and the other looks like the smell of it would be fatal.

I coexist amicably with our coyote population. Love to hear them howling at night, especially the young ones who yip more than howl. I've lost a couple chickens to coyotes over the years, but nothing real problematic.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

We're now sure there are at least 2 adult foxes.
We saw a molting fox on the afternoon of the 4th. No photos of that one. The Fed Ex truck came along at that moment & it ran off.
On the morning of the 6th we saw this one hunting in our east field. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh what a sight! Lovey dubby There is no way this is the same one we saw on the 4th.

Thanks Kurt. I'm betting that fox or foxes are rabid.
Don't worry, it's not like I'm getting real close. Zoom lens & all that. I do love watching them though. It was great watching it hunt that morning. Those ears are amazingly sensitive. It was zeroing in on sounds you & I would never hear. They do the same spring up in the air arching their body & then diving on the prey as you see in this video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
I have seen this video a number of times on TV shows & such but I never knew they use the same springing/pouncing method even when there isn't snow.

Could just be the lighting, but this one looks like it's a deeper red than the other one. It really is pretty! You're lucky, Ann, to get an up-close view of nature without seemingly interrupting the natural flow of things Lovey dubby

It's hard to say Tara. Lighting, editing so the photo is more sharp and this fox certainly appeared to have a "new, fresh coat". All these things can make a difference. If you look back at the first photos I posted on 6/4/16 you can see especially in image 8 & 9, along the top of it's back the coat is old & rough, thick & long. IOW ready to come out. It looks just like my terrier when her coat gets "blown" & those hairs are ready to come out.
Unless a particular fox (or animal) has specific identifying characteristics such as a notched ear, we really can't be sure. Regardless, I love seeing & observing them.

I think you did well to get at least one good photo
I will take at least 20 or more to get one good photo and last night
my fox was so fast and agile that I could not get one photo that was not blurry
due to his moving his head or body..he circles the area that is what they do
and then comes back..for his safety.....
Everything has to eat and I love my squirrels but I love the fox and my deer and
racoon too..and birds..however I love this fox a whole lot...

Our cats are inside..due to a dog mauling last fall..
I wish that people if they have a dog would build a fence around their yard
to give their dogs plenty of play room and a good insulated dog house in the shade
and keep their dogs home ...as we would do..

Now my cats who love the outdoors and always spent 6 months on the porch in beds
and 6 months in the house with us in the heated house...now have to be inside 24 hours a day
which is expensive for litter, a whole lot of work for us, and cleanup each day on floors
and furniture and scooping litter 5 times a day from 2 litter boxes for just 2 cats.

all because someone did not keep their dogs at their home that live l mile from us.

I had to euthanize my beautiful child, a 23 pound grey tabby named Peebo.
I am putting his picture on here on this post. He was with me through illnesses,
and I was with him through his...

anyway glad you have your foxes...and hope the pair remain alive and together...
I have lost one of mine to coyotes , snakes or domestic dogs chasing it..

I am so sorry about Peebo Sheri and you're right, people need to be responsible pet owners & not let their pets run loose. I'm also sorry to hear you lost one of your foxes.
