I recently purchased 2 mexican flame vines. They were shipped wet in newspaper in a box. I planted them in a sunny part of the yard. The temperature spiked from the 70's when I planted them to the high 90's in two weeks. I used vitamin b1 when I planted them & I have kept them moist. They are both getting new growth, however, as soon as the leaves are opened up they turn purple and dry up. I placed temporary shade over them since they are in full sun 2 days ago. No change. Any suggestions?

Any possibility it could be aphids? I got a vine this year and have had a terrible time with the new growth due to aphids. Mine is planted in full sun here in Texas. For the minute the aphids seem to be gone and the new growth is looking much better. It's the first time I've grown the plant, so I'm not experienced with it.
I'm just seeing this, but I can't find mine at the moment. I bought one a couple of months ago, but all the rain and drear we've had must have done mine in. It should be in the backyard, but I'm not seeing it. I'll keep looking. I know they like a lot of sunshine, but don't tolerate the 100+ temperatures we usually have in summer. Can seem to keep them hydrated. Or at least that's what I've found.

Uh oh. For me anyway. It's for sure going to get 100+F before the summer is over. But today it's looking great. I thought I was never going to lose those aphids, though.
I have several vines only one here is in a pot. The others are at the new place but all are in full sun. I have purple growth on all and some leaves just turn brown and fall off. As long as it has new growth and not losing a LOT of leaves.
Gardening is learning, learning, learning. That's the fun of them.
