Need ideas for a 10 year old in the Florida Gardening forum

A friend has a 10 y/o daughter who would like to grow/buy some plants that will bloom over the winter. I suggested panseys. Would appreciate any other ideas that I can pass on to her since I really don't grow stuff for winter blooms. We are in the panhandle about 30 miles north of Panama City. TIA

Each cloud has a silver lineing if only you look for it.

You might look at some of the sennas. They bloom late fall. Hard to say as you are in a hard freeze zone. Some of the blooming annuals like impatiens and coleus would work till they freeze.

Thanks Jan. It is a problem since we DO sometimes get hard freezes

Late joining in here but don't I remember that the flowering cabbage & kale can take frosts/freezes?

and those are pretty too..I see them planted in alot of public places in winter so they must do OK. Calling for a freeze here tonight into tomorrow morning.
