Two years ago I received some naked lady bulbs. Because we have trouble with "critters" digging up things, I planted several of the bulbs in pots and buried the pots in a raised bed. I have had some foliage but no flowers. In desperation I dug up one of the pots and there are loads of roots, which makes me think they are potbound to say the least. Have I done my naked ladies in or is there still hope for them? What should I do now?

I think they take a while to settle in before they will bloom - at least that is my experience...

Jean it does take them a year or two to settle in at least most of the time.

When I was given a big bag of them, I was warned that they sometimes won't bloom for a year or two after transplanting. Mine only waited one year, and have bloomed every year since. Apparently some rodents rearranged them, though, because this year they came up about 2 feet away from where they were planted, right in the middle of a garden path. Whistling

I had this issue after moving into our house. I composted with cow poo and compost, in addition to watering with compost tea all plant are blooming happily. Good luck, They will reward you with gorgeous blooms and humming birds will be buzzing by them for an evening drink in no time.

I finally gave away my naked lady bulbs after five years of big strappy foliage with no blooms. I guess they just did not like me!

I've read that if you'e going to dig / divide them, that it should be done just after flowering, other wise it may take years for them to flower again. Other than that, they're tough and last year after year after year.

Yeah...why not? They will eventually bloom. One of my favorite memories is of a long gravel drive winding up to an old farmhouse in Northern California...with Naked Ladies lining the drive...nothing else, just hundreds of Naked Ladies. Beautiful and so simply stunning.

Got back from FL on Monday and they are all up and leaves looking healthy. Maybe this year will be the one for blooms. I can't wait to tell my neighbor to come down to my garden and see the naked ladies and watch the double take her husband (the kidder) will do and rush down to see them. This time the joke will be on him! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Before you decide to toss a naked lady with even the slightest sign of life check the price of a bulb....$9.00 each last time I looked....

First of all, Welcome! Shirley. No, not throwing them away! Just leaving them where they are. Actually they bloomed this year, but was away at the time and didn't see them. Thumbs down

Great...you can expect them to come and go happily. Some will pop up in unexpected places because of squirrels or moving a plant from one area to another You will not always see the bulb....It makes for nice little surprises... just saying that has been my experience with them..
