I cannot get close to the trunk for a good photo because of brush, but would like to figure out what type of tree this is! I noticed the frilly look from afar, but have not been able to ID. It is probably around 20' tall, about as tall as it is wide. Second photo shows the alternate leaves, and the third photo shows some type of green flower hanging from the branches. I can take more photos tomorrow if needed but here are a couple for now. The trunk is more of a gray color, and also more smooth than usual. Any ideas?

Kind of looks like an elm, Ulmus Americana but I am not really good with trees.

LOL Moon ... I'm not good with many plants but a neighbor at our old house had Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia) and it reminded me a bit of those leaves. Smiling

The leaves are similar to elm, but the shape of the tree and the fruit have to be that type of ironwood. Thanks Kent! I looked through all my tree books and couldnt find it!

LOL, my cataracts are getting so bad that if I don't have them removed soon I might look at a photo of an Elm and think it's a Weeping Willow. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Jean and Lin- I have to admit that the branches do resemble elm. No worries! I was trying to figure out if it's worth clearing around the tree. Thought it was kind of a cool shape, so maybe I will now after I'm sure any baby birds have fledged from nests in the area. Appreciate the help!!

Yes, Kent. That is what the trunk looks like, exactly, so it's ironwood, just a different type. Hey- if I decide to cut down the tree, it says online I can use the wood to make an ox yoke. Rolling on the floor laughing

Hurray! Go for it...don't you really have need of an ox yoke? Rolling my eyes.
