We have a red fox female and a male in our area
they are very healthy and since we have no small animals
out side..we are enjoying watching the mother come by
once or twice a week..

What has become a problem the last decade is that people are not taking care of their domestic dogs and letting them roam killing our beloved cat, and killing the deer and the fox and wildlife.

We live in a beautiful area rural and you would never think of this situation with dogs...but we have it..guess everyone does ..

We kept our dog in a fence and it bothered no one else or other peoples
yard pets..

but the majority
of dog owners do not fence their yard and do not have a dog house and bedding for their yard dogs.. I wish they did..

Very cool fox, wish I had some to watch. I do get coyotes now and again. Re dogs in rural areas - we've always kept a largish outdoor dog and it has been helpful to keep deer and coyotes out of the yard. Sorry you have had problems with them - sometimes dogs will 'pack up' and cause more mischief than a solo dog.

Baby foxes are kits, cubs or pups. I like kit.

I do see foxes here...more during the season for raising kits and such. But they don't bring the little ones during the day...those will come when they're older. I was a bit uneasy about one particular fox this year...first time a fox started hanging out under my shed...this behavior wasn't normal. It was around too much and foxes don't do that. Didn't look very healthy. After a while of this, one day I heard an odd sound while near the shed and looked up on the back driveway (upper driveway). Then I realized the fox had made that very odd sound again, a hoarse barking-like sound. Normally foxes are quiet. That was when I realized it was sick. Never saw it after that day. Don't know...I worried about Rabies, but don't know what it was. There are other animal diseases, and it did seem to have been ill for at least a few weeks.

We had a fox here last summer that thankfully ate the neighbors chickens as they pooped in MY yard. But now they have more birds, in MY yard and little foxy is gone

Coyotes, and owls will eat cats! Maybe fox?

I'm sorry, but I haven't been very appreciative of Ms. Foxy. Ms. Foxy decided to have her pups/kits, under one of my sheds (the groundhogs had already conveniently made the hole under, though there (was) at least 2" to 4" gaps all the way around. Ms. Foxy had her pups early in the year, probably like March. We had a cold spring that year, 2016, and I didn't realize it until one day I looked out my kitchen window and saw something. Before I knew it I had pups scrambling two feet from my feet to get back under my shed, and Ms. Foxy turned-head growling as she ran off.

They had *almost* killed many plants, including expensive clematis, some daylilies, bottle-brush plant (I can't think of the regular name for it, and a couple others that the names are evading my mind. I was very upset. She had 4 pups, and they all laid on the emerging growth, as well as digging like dogs do. Caused me a lot of extra work.

I love Fox-ies, but in someone else's yard-garden or under their shed, please!

That is a scary thought! I couldn't imagine a canine eating a canine (as a food source), but I can imagine a fox killing another smaller dog; not trying to worry you more. I was worried about my cat though. But did some research and found in most instances fox only prey on easy targets. Cats were generally not a target; unless Ms. Foxy thought cat was a threat to her pups.

Here's a young fox that has been visiting us in France. He's really tame, happy to eat from your hand, seems to like human company. I wondered whether he had been raised by a human. Apologies to anyone who has seen this pic in another thread!

Warning: There is a reason for the "sly fox" expression! They will attack and kill both house and feral cats, hens and pheasants and rabbits at will! Too bad they can't stick to moles and other varmints-but they don't! Just beware! Before someone lays the guilt trip on me, in that "nature is nature" or something like that, I have a preference as to which of the above creatures I like to have around, and unfortunately, my choices are diametrically opposed to those of the fox!!

I was at first very concerned about the feral cats that I feed in France, but was surprised to see that the fox leaves them alone - indeed seems to fear them. Perhaps because he is young. I hope that he will learn to hunt (not the cats!) and return to the wild - perhaps to find himself a foxy lady...

if he is not scared of people, he will eventually reach an untimely and not happy ending, more than likely.

I so hope not...

He is a beautiful animal. Not good for him to be so unafraid of humans.
