Well my name is Lynn and I am truly addicted to Iris! I love the bearded ones most. I really like luminatas and bicolor but just about any are beautiful......soo when you get into your Iris patches and start to divide them and don't know what to do with the leftovers please remember this addict and the need for an Iris fix!

And join HIPS if you like historics, but even if not, check their sale coming up. And the Pickle Barrel collection in Michigan will be having a sale in August, lots of historics but others are included.
What is your favorite "fix" for soothing the addiction?

Lynn, haven't had time to research iris societies in the area yet, which one did you join? Do you like it? (Feel free to Tree-mail mail me if you like) I'm not too far from you, so if you like the one you're in, is likely it is close enough for me to join, too! All of my irises are currently on order waiting to be shipped to me (except one i got last year which gave me my iris virus), or I would offer to trade with you. Maybe next year, though?

There is The American Iris Society which is National with news letters, information, and listings.

There is usually a local State or county iris Society also. Members may get special discounts from vendors and you meet folks near you who collect iris also. You can trade, swap, or buy awesome varieties with them.

They also have local iris shows.

I'm kind of discouraged about our local iris club. There is a sale coming up next weekend. I e-mailed the President indicating that I would have a lot to donate, and I'd be happy to help with the set up on Thursday P.M. That was a week ago. Still no response. Guess they don't need my measly rhizomes or help either. Shrug!

Tom, I cant imagine an iris club not jumping for joy at the chance to have a new member that will work not to mention the added bonuses of rhizomes. Our club has the same several people working on every project. If we could get a member that said they could help occasionally there would be backflips. Perhaps your email went into his spam folder??? If you are interested in being a part of this group go to the sale and mention to the folks working there that you have offered to help but seem to be having communication problems. If they do not correct this situation there is something really wrong at your club and then you can write them off and not think twice about it. I cant imagine ignoring an offer of help and rhizomes. The pres. forwarded your email to the chairperson of the sale committee. You would be our chairpersons new best friend. Shrug!

Tom, if it makes you feel any better I have had a similar experience here. My letter to the local organization went unanswered. On the other hand, I found out about a daylily society nearby and just showed up to a meeting instead of writing. I have been happily accepted in that one and have been doing some volunteer work for them. I'm going to try to find out when the iris society has a meeting and just show up...maybe that'll work! The unanswered letter could have gone into spam, could have been an address that isn't used much, could have been a recipient who's lousy at e-mail, who knows??!! I bet they want you--they just don't know it yet! Whistling

I can never get to their meetings as they have them in the late afternoon when I'm feeding my horses.

Thank you. Smiling I was actually wondering what she thought of the one here, in particular, hoping she might have first-hand experience with them now or soon. The group I belong to does daylilies and irises, but the focus is more focused on daylilies, so I was wondering if the iris group is worth adding as a second group to belong to.

Tom,
Our former president never answered emails either. It's a shame because it sheds a negative light on the organization when there are so many that are enthusiastic and willing ... Try sending a note to the secretary or one of the other board members.

I was hoping to get some Iris from the bluegrass Iris society that had a stand set up at a farmers market at on the route of the us 127 road sale last year. I found out they will not be having any for sale there this year. I am bummed. I got some nice ones from them last year. Guess I am going to have to resort to begging. Anyone want to send Iris for postage? Crossing Fingers!

I wish I could help, Lynn! This is my first year, so I haven't had any blooms nor any increases. Next year will come!
