thank you dave for the hips iris sale post, and to sherry for clarification of hips... i finally figured out a "duh" moment before i read your post sherry on what the acronymn stood for.
i love to look at all that i might order, but in reality have to put a check to that impulse, unless i want to throw out the rest of my garden to start over again with mostly irises (when we moved her 10 yr. ago, i planted two variegated irises, by the end of the year, they shriveled and disappeared. after that experience i was reluctant to try more because of the zone requirements). if all goes well, i might try a year-end sale of joe ghio's. for now, i have to be content and not crowd my small space w/too many iris cultivars
i had a late start to the iris order, because a friend who lives ins santa cruz is coming for a visit and she's the instigator, who asked if i might like to try some of her iris surplus.
this started my quest for more ( cuz ya can't just have one?!). she may know sherry?
i will let y'all know how my four for now are faring, and will post more with photos when my other box from '"nola's" arrives. it may not be until september?
i planted the four i did rec'v. from shreiner s, in the ground w/out soaking roots. i only read about that tip, after i had planted all directly in the ground. most of my soil is quite sandy, and i will have to see in the next grwoing season if i have to amend the soil?
i might try a few in pots as well, to see which ones have the best fighting chance for flowers and growth.
