Thread OP

A. comosus var. erectifolius is not a wild pineapple. It is traditionnally cultivated for fiber in the northern part of Amazonia. The high content of fibers is related to the erect habit. A common vernacular name is "curagua". It was domesticated by Amerindian people from smooth-leaved mutants of the wild A. comosus var. microstachys.
