The tree's fruit is already formed - located in Springfield, VA. Not sure if this is a native plant or something that was transplanted - none of the leaf databases seem to pull up similar leaves that correspond with the visible fruit.

Not sure but to my old eyes it looks like a pear tree, possibly a Bartlett. The foliage looks the same as the trees in our yard.

I really can't tell from the one photo, but camellias sometimes have odd-looking seed pods. The habit doesn't quite look right, but it could be the camera angle or just the plant needs to be pruned a bit.

Another photo of the whole plant might help.
