Celebrating Gardening: 2015
I have a number of Regale here and there in the gardens.... but a couple of them are doing some strange this year so far.
the first thing is one has a flat stem but lots of buds on top but the stem never developed in width at all.........just looks like a flat ruler.
the other thing is the number of blooms that Regale normally has in one year.
There are some second year bulbs here that are getting about twelve or more blooms but then there is one that has well over 30 blooms coming on the one plant...........can not even count all the buds to be honest...... Just wandering what is the norm for this lily

I love Regale and the one with all the blooms coming is a huge heavy stock.........and very tall.

any thoughts??

Sounds like your flat stem is fasciated. Here is a photo. The fascinated stems can have lots of buds. Some may not be able to open correctly. You might want to give the stem some support since it will be heavier than normal. Most of my Regales have10-12 blooms when bulbs are mature.

thanks that is very interesting

I notice that the other stem with the 30 plus more blooms is a regular stem....

the flattened stem has quite a few buds but not like the other regale

will keep a close watch on what is happening here as they open and that is not for a bit yet......

will support both Regale just in case with all the blooms that are coming.....

thanks for your help Susan
