Does anyone know what type of vine this is? I've seen what I consider the usual grape vine, but this is different. When it flowered it had a pleasant scent. The licorice red stems are throwing me off the ID. Any help would be appreciated!

Muscadine?

Looks like Muscadine (Vitis rotundifolia) to me too. I've never seen one in bloom and it sure is pretty!

I've never seen a Muscadine vine look that pretty. LOL! Maybe it's a Mustang grape, they usually fruit in clusters with more fruit than other wild grapes. Just guessing here. I'll probably be back after I look at our database and search the web.

Thanks! Yes, the vine is very red. Looks like those really long strands of licorice. I was thinking it was something purposely planted many years ago, apparently the previous owner had a fence with some grapes, then it spread, but it must be the birds doing it! It would be nice if it didn't get a woody stem.
