Thanks Becky! I wouldn't consider them a nectar plant though. I see butterflies and hummingbirds in my daylily garden pretty often, and they might stop at one flower, but they quickly move on to other plants in the garden. The butterfly in the picture just didn't want to give up! It was out there for a good hour, and it really loved Frans Hals, but I'm not so sure that it got a meal. It also tried Mary Todd, but didn't stay on that one very long. It landed on a few others, but only stayed a few seconds, and went right back to Frans Hals.

I had Frans Hals for 3 years when I was first hit by the Daylily bug. I started with one fan and in 3 years it was a huge clump. Many many blooms, a prolific grower and one of the latest bloomers that i had. I ended up replacing it when I re lanscaped my small yard, and I fell in love with toothy and spider ones.

I've had Fran's Hal's at least 10 years. I've split it, moved it, and took it with me when I moved from black dirt to clay! It has been very hardy and continues to bloom beautifully and hardy in Iowa. I love to pair it with other daylilies and plants that compliment the bi-colors. Beautiful pictures Natalie! Thank You!

Sharon - for some reason that happened on a few posts I gave out acorns, but do not worry about. You hit a acorn lotto award. Hilarious! Smiling

I have had Frans Hals for well over 25 years. The clump had become rather thick and I divided it into several smaller sections about two years ago. It is a fast grower, as both of the ones that I kept have now grown into nice sized clumps. I love the bi-tone color that it has. I agree with an earlier post that the foliage is kind of thin and wispy.

I have had Frans Hals for about 6 years now. Got it from a friend who had it in the ditch next to the end of their driveway for years. Growing like crazy and never tended much there. It's a prolific grower here, withstanding temps to minus 22 degrees. Still one I love to see each year.

Does anyone know if this cultivar re-blooms?

I agree with Annette, never had rebloom. It has not been a bud builder either. Just a reliable oldie but goodie. Have a joy filled day every one !

Love my Frans Hals like the bitone grows well lots of blooms no upkeep to speak of. It is a later daylily that keeps my season going, since I don't have a lot of late daylilies in my collection.

I've had Frans Hals for a long time. I think it was in my original group of antique Daylilies that I picked up in Vermont at a now defunct farm in the early 90s. That being said, the plant has been moved around my yard a few times so it hasn't really formed a giant clump.

Currently, it's in a pretty good location up by the house. Frans Hals bloomed from July 16 to August 1. I think I must have thrown some of it in the woods because I only have a few fans. But judging by what people have said here, if I just leave it alone, it should expand pretty well. I like the flower, it reminds me of Alnilam, except brighter and narrower. It also blooms once Alnilam is finished, in the same bed, extending my bicolor season.

I planted five healthy fans of Frans Hals in the fall of 2021. Since then the plant has done well, expanding to eight fans. The plant has bloomed both seasons, but I keep hoping for more as I just love its bright colors. I can see why this old cultivar continues to be popular.

The plant has been highly rust-resistant here, so it will stay.
