I'm sorry if this is a silly question, but I've never had to deal with it before. I ordered a few varieties of daylilies from a new -- to me -- nursery; I am STUNNED at what I received: big, healthy plants, lots of extras...this is now my favorite place! I was busy babysitting four grandkids and unable to plant them out when they got here, so I stuck them in a bucket of water for a few hours.
I'm used to small, young fans, I've never gotten such large plants, and obviously they were blooming when cut. Will these scapes re-grow, or are they done blooming for the season?

The cut scapes are not likely to regrow. If they were very young and they were cut above any possible branch points and if they do not dry up after being planted then there is a slight possibility that a new branch might develop with a few buds on a scape.

However, if you plant them as soon as possible in fertile soil and baby (water & fertilizer) them for the rest of the year then it is possible that some of the plants may recover well enough to produce new scapes.

Thank you! As I said, when I order online, I never get plants this size; I've never received cut scapes before. I can deal with not getting blooms this year, I got over twice as many fans as I should have so I'm not complaining. Hurray!

Welcome to NGA, mystlw! Your order looks terrific! I agree with Maurice .... if you get them planted and give them some extra care, you very well could get re-blooms this year. Good luck with your new babies!

Thank you, I like it here, though I'm still a little overwhelmed!

I am VERY happy with this order! I ordered two each of four different kinds; what I got was 34 fans, all of them big and beautiful. It puts the other places I've ordered from to shame.

Nice looking order! Daylilies surprise me with their vigor and resilience, so you may see scapes on some of those later in the season.
This year, one of my daylilies orders got lost somehow in the mail, and I received them after they were in the post for two weeks. They were completely dry and the foliage was totally yellow and dried. I soaked them overnight and then planted the next day and watered well. Within a day, they had shot up new green foliage. One plant grew 4 inches of new foliage in one day! Incredible. I will take a few pictures of them with their new growth.
Good luck with your daylily order and Welcome!

mystlw, Welcome!
We are often reluctant to mention names of vendors when there is some negative aspect to the transaction, but don't feel bashful about bragging on a vendor who does such a wonderful job. Now what did you say the name of that vendor was? Whistling

I'm new here, so just to be clear: I'm allowed to do this, right?

O'Bannon Springs Daylilies, in Ohio. I read some fantastic reviews elsewhere and thought it might be nice to make a road trip there for my birthday next month, so I made a small order to see if they really were as awesome as they seemed.

They are!

Yes, it is more than OK, anytime a vendor goes beyond expectations it is great to mention them. You can also write up a nice review here in the green pages section!

Definitely give them a try, I've never seen a bad review of them.

I got my first daylilies in 2012, but I started with those horrible tissue culture roots they sell at Walmart, so I'm fairly new to decent, healthy ones.

(Loved looking at your Have list! My Daylily Want list just got a little longer!)
