Thread OP

For the past 2 weeks my neighbor's 40 ft. purple orchid tree has been raining pods and spreading seeds on my immaculately maintained yard. I just bought this house six months ago and I hadn't considered this when I landscaped. Now the seeds are starting to sprout and I am losing sleep at the thought of having to weed them all out of my flower beds. In the lawn they'll just get mowed down so I'm not terribly concerned. Is there a way that I can discourage germination?

Pre-emergents seem to work for me for most seeds. Do they have seedlings in their yard, too? If not, could you ask them what they do about them?

Yes, a product like Preen actually prevents seeds from germinating so that's what you need to use BEFORE the seeds start to sprout.
