Stringent or non-astringent, that is the question.

Exactly!

As an aside - I just dropped off another bucket of Gouramis at Fish Town USA in Ramsey. It is nice to see "my babies" placed into a large ( I think 100 or 125 Gallon) tank planted with real plants. I talked to the fellow who is tending to them, they are placed into this baby holding tank and observed. Then the largest are moved in with the ready-for-sale fish. It seems some from the last batch went already out. On my way out I stood a while and watched the holding tank, they looked happy, which pleased me.

We used to have Gourami's when we had fresh water fish back in the 70's ... at least I think that's what they were, they were pale pink and called "Kissing Gouramis', but there's probably more than one type of Gourami. My husband's hobby has been salt water fish for many years now and he has a 150 gal marine tank with a few fish, live rock and coral. Oops, the flash didn't go off but maybe some of it is visible.

Good looking tank, Lin. I never did Saltwater fish when I was "truly" keeping fish many years ago. We did keep some Kissing Gouramis as part of a 125 Gallon community tank.
I probably have to drop off another batch of babies in a few weeks, as they grow and crowd each other out. I have to say, I really enjoy these fish, and the small species of orchids hanging right above them love the extra humidity.

Thanks, all I do is put food in the tank once a day, LOL. There's all sorts of pumps, filters, skimmers and such that my husband has to tend to almost daily. It's a lot of upkeep trying to keep the tank healthy so that the live corals thrive. That's a great idea hanging orchids above the tank for the humidity!

Beautiful, Lin! I had African cichlids once a long time ago.

Thanks Janice! African Cichlids are very colorful for fresh water fish.

It's just that Ursula is normally our resident fish keeper so I had it in my head it was her. And no, I hadn't had my wine yet.

I wasn't sure into which thread to post the fish tanks and the setup in general, showing how I grouped the smaller ( mostly) Orchids above them.
But here are some pictures, from the pond thread:
