Hello, the leaves on many DLs have this kind of striking/burnt signs. What is it? I cannot identify the problem.

First two questions, has the weather been hot, sunny and or dry lately, and have you sprayed them with anything? Are they new daylilies - I notice some leaves are cut? OK that's three questions

Well, the weather is hot and sunny since past monday (5 days). It rained for 40 days. Everyday.
No spray at all in these 40 days because of the rains. The plants are all adult plants, you see some cut leaf because I cut the parts that gets brown/ugly.
I'm having some heavy attack from aphids but only in the last two days. Yesterday evening I watered and this early morning I sprayed an insecticide for aphids.

I live in a very hot climate and my foliage looked horrible. I was ready to cry. I started studying it. Some would be leaf streak, some would be aphids and some would be leaf miners. I had one garden foliage looked ok. I started noticing I got leaf streak on the aphid daylilies. Literally I prayed what to do. Aphids overhead watering to knock them off, leaf streak no overhead watering, what a contradiction. One spring I took baking soda and dish soap and started my daylily washing program. Many years ago I found out that if you have crazy things occurring in your lawn and garden sprinkling baking soda can cure. I used to use baking soda in my swimming pool. It is a great neutralizer. I also have sandy soil. I wash daylilies early in spring. My foliage has looked better longer. Yes I still get leaf streak but it occurs way less. The bed that never had problems got aphids this year. I was late on my spring washing. Those daylilies had some leaf streak for the first time. In my experience you do not notice something was on your daylilies till the heat hits and the foliage can not handle it. The joy in life is when you care for something. It is even hard to see plants struggle. May you be guided to the best answers!

i fought with spring sickness and some daylily gall midge. But I still can't recognize many problems/pests!

The reason I asked about hot dry sunny weather is because some of your problem looks like leaf scorch, see the top picture here:

Some looks like leaf streak, and it may be that one led to the other because leaf streak needs an injury of some kind to infect. There also may be a nutritional issue going on but it's hard to be sure, some of the other leaves look to be an uneven green.

It is actually quite difficult to identify some daylily problems visually, quite often the only way to be sure what something is requires a diagnostic lab and most of us aren't going to bother with that unless it is a serious problem causing the demise of numerous plants. So we have to try and piece together the possibilities then go through a process of elimination.

I read about leaf streak, and read that the fungus it's the one that's maybe involved in spring sickness. Since I had spring sickness I thought it could be a possibility.
I see some light "scorching" on the scapes too, I thought it was because of slugs ( there were many during the rain period). In the third picture, where you can see the cut leaf, those yellow signs are the same thing of the ones that are on the uncut ones. I thought of cutting because if it's a fungus I'd take off the affected part. The rest of foliage looks healthy to me, not evident signs of any deficiency, given that these leaves are not presenting a deficiency related problem. I hope I wrote in proper manner. I realized how complicated thsi sentence was after producing it
Edit: there's a huge colony of small yellow insects (1 mm) running up and down two DLs. I supposed they are aphids. But I'm not sure anymore..

Amber, I think it depends on what's causing it. If it's because of heat no damage to the plant. If it's because a fungus or some parasite then yes.

Hmm, I will have to research some of those causes. I too have leaves that are turning brown but I haven't really thought about what might be causing them. I generally just trim off the brown every few days. I do know that I have some spider webs that are attaching to my leaves and around the base of my plants. I haven't actually seen the spiders, but the webs are there. Other than scorch, streak, and aphids, what other types of issues should I look for?

Uh oh I forgot sipder mites! Looking at my flower there are webs in between blooms! thanks Amber, I was thinkg about aphids but maybe it's a colony of spider mites.

No a daylily won't normally die from a leaf problem. If the leaves turn brown because of herbicide use then that would be different. The critical part of a daylily is the crown. A fungal or bacterial disease that affects the crown could kill the plant but in that case the leaves would also be wilting.

Daylilies are pretty tough and Sue is right. Daylilies do not usually die from leaf problems. The biggest mistake made is that when leaf problems occur people think brown/ yellow leaf, I need to water. They water the crown. That can cause other problems like crown rot. Try to water around the daylily. Older leaves can turn brown naturally. Also, look closely at daylily photos. Most are either close up of the flower or a garden shot from far away. If you look closely at any foliage you will find it is not perfect. The most important time to worry about bad looking foliage is in the spring. New growth emerging should look perfect. Many blessings to all!

I do have just about all the pests mentioned above plus rust! Yet, with as many things that affect the leaves I would like to think the majority of or at least a lot of them that turn from green, to yellow, to brown, to dead are sometimes just the result of old age.
