I would like to know daylily gardens in Iowa where I can see the actual daylily growing and purchase it there. I purchased some hybrids online, but the pictures were obviously enhanced after my blooms opened. Thank you.

Look up Nan RIpley in Nevada, Iowa at Walkabout Gardens. She has a wonderful garden! Her garden been on Regional tour for Daylilies and National Tour for liliums. Plus she hybridizes, has a lot of her own introductions on display, which will be completely hardy there! Also Nan is very nurturing and kind, and will be able to give a newbie lots of helpful advice.

Ginny-- pictures do get enhanced. I will add that if your daylilies are not yet 3 years in your ground, the color could still change. I bought a solid cream daylily and by the end of three years it was pink. I kid you not. It was George Caleb Bingham. This year in spring our temps fluctuated between high 80s and low 60s during the day. My Silver Veil would be cream when it was warm and lavender when cool same scape. So age, weather, humidity, and fertilizer can affect colors. Some daylilies if they do not like your zone may not match pictures. Give a daylily 3years before you say I do not like it. I have many that do not really look like their pictures but when my daughter photographs them they look pretty close to catalog picture. Nature has more colors than a camera or printer. You are on the right track to find daylilies in your area. Not only is it best to see them in real life, you know they will grow well in your yard, and the daylilies themselves will not have to make a climate change. Many blessings on your search!

Thanks for all of the input! I've been collecting daylilies for several years in the local area and when we moved I split and moved starts of all of them with me. Couldn't stand to part with them. Always had good luck. Then I saw Bella Note Priece online and purchased several hybrids. So far none look like the pictures. I'll give it a couple more years. Also one place said to use their fertilizers, I did, and now they tell me the one could have faded the blooms! Lesson learned. I'll check here for true color from now on.
