TASSEL.
A slow grower but superb bloom.

Hi Becky,
In retrospect using Tassel may have not been a great idea. The hybrids from it that are multipetalled (the object of the exercise), are mostly slow growers. Only Tasstic really grows well enough to be registered.
A lot of the best newish hybrids have used Ruby snowflake or Slightly sassy as parents for the multipetalled effect.
Of late the raft of great hybrids with the 'Kiwi' prefix from New Zealand (of course) are creating a lot of interest and some Aussie ones with the 'Ulana' prefix are also very good.
I hope to have a few blooming this spring and I will post pics here.
Had a look at your garden vid: ..most impressive. Well done.
You just need more epis!
Cheers, Steve.

No, this epi has been an excellent grower and bloomer for me and holds it's colour nicely.
Only smallish blooms but I am impressed with it.

Steve - Thank you!

Ooooh! I love your Kiwi Honey Child! I rarely see yellow Epi blooms. That one is excellent!

Thanks for the explanation about the slow growth on Tassel. Too bad, as it looked like it had some excellent attributes!

Here's one I registered and wished I hadn't.
As it turns out it's not a great grower. (Still a nice bloom).
It's parent Fiji is also a nice bloom but hard to grow.

Steve - Your hybrids are amazing! I love them! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

Seems in my climate and zone, I'd be able to hybridize epis too. I must not treat my under ideal conditions because I rarely see blooms. Sad Thanks for sharing photos of your rare and beautiful seedling blooms!

Do you happen to own and have a photo of a Showboat bloom? I have that one and I don't believe that it has ever bloomed for me. I would like to see once again what the blooms would look like. Smiling

Thanks Becky. Showboat is an xl bloom and a strong grower and bloomer. I have had some very big blooms on it. It's a good one to use in hybridising.
