I heard an off-hand comment on a gardening podcast the other day about the content of an long-established fish emulsion product. Maybe referencing chlorine content? Has anyone else heard or read of such a thing?

I've heard nothing about it, but I just have never used fish emulsion.

Heath - we must have been listening to the same podcast. I had also heard it a while back on a Howard Garret podcast but I think the details (at the time) just whizzed right through and out my brain. I tried googling yesterday but couldn't come up with anything but maybe my query wasn't properly worded. Might have to email Mike and see if I get a response.

I did check out the Dirt Doctor archives and found this - https://www.dirtdoctor.com/gar...
I wonder if this is what the controversy is about.

That that could be what it's over but would that raise the chlorine level in it

It might have been my faulty memory on the chlorine. I was trying to remember what was mentioned on either podcast but I guess the specific memory was elusive.

If you Google using the keywords fish emulsion chlorine, or fish fertilizer chlorine, there are several results. I didn't see anything concrete or scientifically researched though. Something to bear in mind also is that chlorine is actually an essential plant nutrient, not that you'd want to try and apply it. You may find this article interesting:

Sooby - thanks for posting that link. I've tried to avoid watering certain plants with our city water, which of course contains some form of chlorine, trying to use rain water as much as possible. That being said, I live in the midwest rust belt so who knows what's in our rain water.

I have 600 ft. Deep well here so i have no chlorine. Its tested fine. Ive used my aquarium water for the goldfish for years it tends to make better flowers on your plants i use it when things start to bloom about every few weeks.

Tn - Nice to have a deep well. Our main water source here is Lake Michigan - treated of course. Good thinking on using the aquarium water for plants.
