Becky, you're got to have Spider Man. In Zone 6 I get my first blooms late June. Hearty scapes, high bud count, large red spider(y) blooms. Mine are strong, happy plants even when neglected. I've gifted two small divisions in 9 years. A plant that delivers.

Steve your blooms are gorgeous! I'm quite fond of Emerald Tarantula.

The only negative thing I could say about Spiderman is that it won't set a pod for me. Pollen is good though.

For what it's worth, we grow evergreens up here, so it's possible you might get lucky with some dormants down there. Spider Man is a less expensive cultivar, so you wouldn't be wasting much it it did die, but it's so worth the risk.

What do you call the day lilies with the petals in this shape instead of the normal petals?

Stan - Oh my! Gorgeous!!! I hope to have Trahlyta coming this Fall. That is one that I have coveted for some time now. If I don't get it this Fall, it will be another on my Wish List when I get any in late Winter/Early Spring 2017.

This should be my last large flowered daylily to bloom for the first time this year. Here is Tender Love, and I love it. To me, it is a smaller version of Small World Snow Owl. Since SW Snow Owl has now bloomed out, this one just extends the beautiful flowers, only just not as large. It is blooming more down in the foliage this year than last, but it is not tall anyway--registered at 22" and that seems to be the norm for us. With 12 scapes, there will be a nice bloom time for this one. Definitely not a new one, came out in 1970, it has won HM, AM and it also won a fragrance award.

Two more bloomed today as newbies in a newbie garden!

Dave, I believe they are considered an "Unsual Form - Cascade". To me, Emerald Trantula also looks like it has spatulate petals but I am by no means and expert on these forms.
