The Orioles do the chasing off the first clutch when the second fledges too. I've not seen any wrestling or plucking though.

They are Kurt. They are highly vocal and the territorial breast-puffing and strutting is quite entertaining.

to the victor goes the spoils , I had two hummingbirds chasing each other out there today. sadly I am too slow to catch the chase but I did get a few shots of the victor.

Funny this thread popped up when I logged in, I went my fig tree today to gather figs for preserves and look what I found sitting right in the middle of the tree. I do believe it's a baby mocking bird.

Yes they were there as well. So I just left, went back a bit later and the lil guy was bouncing around stretching it wings, And it had a sibling bouncing around as well. I forgot my iPad so I couldn't capture the images. It was precious to see the family together.

Fledgling blue bird
The other day the dog & I were coming back form checking the mail & walking past the fig bush I happened to spy a fledgling blue bird sitting there just as still & quiet as can be. I took the dog in the house, grabbed my camera & went back to see if I could get photos. It was so much in shadows there that honestly, I couldn't see a thing in the LCD on the camera & had no idea if I was getting the bird or not. In the first photo you have to look at the center bottom & you can only see it's head there. Then it got freaky & hopped out into the tall grass where I did manage to get a few shots. Mom & Dad were in the sycamore tree above & getting very upset with me pursuing their darling child. They even got so upset they began to dive at my head. I didn't want to disturb them anymore so left them to their own.
Oh shoot! I see the head is partially obscured by my copyright stuff.

I just LOVE mockers Mika!!!! I think they're just about the coolest birds. They always look proud, stand up straight with their shoulders back & look ready to take on the world. They sing like heaven. They also happen to be the state bird of Florida & I well understand why.

I wish the pics turned out better of this bird. Lots of birds like to perch on the dead part at the very top of this tree, more than 100 feet away and just as tall. I noticed the bird but didn't recognize what kind, it looked pretty big even from such a distance. So I zoomed in for a closer look...



And closer. I still don't know what kind of bird. It sure has a long straight beak.

Florida's state bird should be the Florida Scrub Jay!
