My Typhonodorum is in a covered house but the ends are open. This hasn't been a problem this winter as the temps have been mostly warmer than normal all season. In fact, many of my Caladiums are coming up already, about 2 months ahead of schedule. I haven't had to heat anything this winter - last winter I heated just one time.

Nice that the weather is cooperating for you and here's hoping it continues to do so. The more I look at pictures of this plant the more fascinated with it I am.

Evan, your fascination would be confirmed solidly if you saw one live and close up. The plant is truly stunning and combines the best of both banana plants and aroids. All it needs is some cold tolerance and it would be a must have for every tropical lover's collection.

Similar to Musarum? Smiling "All it needs is some cold tolerance" I've been trying to drill down on this without much success. How much cold can it handle in your experience?

Evan,
I won't let mine get down to freezing but I've heard that in native habitat it may experience cool temps but not freezing. There is an aroid (genus Peltandra) that looks a lot like it but much smaller, and which grows in places like Virginia. If I could cross Typhonodorum successfully with that plant (even if the progeny turned out sterile), I'd be home!

Musarum? Yes, exactly, although Musarum is the ultimate in banana-aroid fusion. I'll need a transgenic lab before I can begin work on that one.
