This is the 3rd year I've planted coleus in my plant tower. Still have a couple Wave pansies also pluming in the tower. The only thing I don't like is that the very top one is too short, so next year will have to remember to plant a taller one up there.
Most of my coleus are cuttings I saved inside over winter. All of them got shredded by hail soon after they were moved outside and that slowed them down a lot. These 3 square pots each holds 5gallon pots with one coleus in each pot.
The 3 square pots and this one are on my front porch. My cat sat on the Main Street coleus that was originally in this pot. Can't remember the name of this one.
These pots are in my driveway along with some succulents and zinnias.
Awesome. I love all of them. The tower has a water source ? How interesting and clever. Is that an invention of yours? or is it a unit from a garden center.
Are those earth boxes with zinnias ? Love those zaharas.
Susan those are really pretty. Would you know the name of the one in the 8th picture back of container. Kind of looks like fishnet stocking but more green.
The Tower is mostly a Mary Jane Stacking unit I've had for many years. Don't think they sell this large of one anymore. Since it's in the driveway, I used a big black pot as the base instead of the one that came with it. That way I could fill it 1/2 way full of gravel and then ran a piece of rebar down the center of the whole thing so it won't get blown over by the wind. It has no water source. Water that goes in the top drips down through the system, but I usually also water each hole separately to be sure all get really wet. Interested I the one Dave is testing but this seems to work fine for me.
The zinnias are growing in Earthboxes. The cannas too. I didn't have much luck with vegetables in them. Growing some Black Eyed Susan vines in a couple other ones and chocolate mint in one too. Expensive pots for annuals, but I've given up on vegetables.
Julia that coleus is Ruby Dreams. Really nice. I used to have Golden Dreams too but the cuttings didn't make it through the winter.
Susan thanks. The tower is fantastic.
I am growing eggplants and toms in earthboxes for the first time. It's going great. The kits included fertilizer so that must be the success element.
I used the included fertilizer the first year and then got refills for the second year. Most of my problem was due to bug damage, so I guess I shouldn't really blame the earthboxes. Swiss chard and lettuce were the only things that did OK for me and both seemed to do better in the ground.
I just realized that I do still have both Ruby Dreams and Golden Dreams. In fact they are side by side in the tower.
Here is what I have this year.. no bloom masters but hopefully next year.. plectranthus and perilla are rocking it this year.. sorry for the holiday decorations.. still moving stuff from storage into the new place

Oooh these ARE awesome! I haven't seen a new Coleus to add to my lineup for about 5 yrs. These super-great pics make me realize how much I miss having more of a variety of them!

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The 2nd best time is now. (-Unknown)

Thanks I realized I can't put any in the raised beds we put in.. they ate them several times since spring. Glad the couple sprung back . . That fuzzy plectranthus may need a billion cuttings of.. maybe with the texture they will leave it alone .. looks almost like a lambs ear
Sarah and I voted for the dark colors and Blaires Witch. Now to see which ones dont mind being cuttings.
I have had some disappointments with coleus that just don't respond to growing from cuttings.
Oh and cuttings from plectranthus Cream Edge.
